I Picked a Great Time to Come Back

Easily one of the worst Sox losses I can recall in quite some time. I know, it's the Metrdome, it's the Twins, it's September, etc. etc. etc. But for all the excuses, man, they looked terrible tonight, and the Twins beat them in every way. Javier Vazquez? Terrible. Offense? Terrible. Bullpen? Boone Logan terrible. The Twins dunked and dinked them, and then they powered past them.

All that said, a little perspective people, the Sox are still 1.5 games up on the Twins and have the inside track on the American League Central, especially if they can escape from the Metrodome with ONE friggin' win this week. I know it's bad, I know it was embarrassing, but Mark Buehrle and Gavin Floyd go the next two days and you just have to believe one of them will pull out a gem and get us back to Chicago with at least a 1.5 game lead and a Magic Number of 3.

The New York Times wrote a nice recap of the game as well as hopefully, some reason for hope.

Carlos Quentin sounds very optimistic about his chances of returning before the calendar turns over to 2009. Hopefully this is good news; the Sox haven't been a juggernaut without Quentin, especially these last few weeks so hopefully his big bat is just what the doctor ordered, especially in the post-season.

What do the White Sox mean to Chicago's economy? Try $72 million if they make the postseason.

Finally, hopefully the Royals' pursuit of 4th place kills all hope for Minnesota. Of course, after the Sox jet out of the Twin Cities, the TC's face the Royals in their last series of the season. Considering the Royals have finished in dead last 5 straight seasons, perhaps that's more of a goal than we'd like to believe. Hell, I remember last year, when the Sox were tanking, finishing not in last place became a quasi-obsession.

Keep the faith, Sox fans. Keep the faith.

MAGIC NUMBER = 5

i still don't get why the hell you aren't blogging regularly, given your blog had a lot of promise.

i went to game 2 of the 3-game series at the big inflatable toilet...watched the white sox lose 3-2, then listened on radio, because i'm too poor for cable, to the sox blow a 6-1 lead on thursday.

what did i think after all that? fire ozzie. his schtick is old. he will always be loved in chicago, but his calling out javier didn't work, his joking about the pirannas having no bite didn't make a difference, and his use of the bullpen in game 3 at the BIT didn't result in a win.

the sox have been trying to reload since 2005...and where has it gotten them....a division crown in a weak AL central. it's time to rebuild, with a new skipper.

all that being said: living in MN, it is sweet justice knowing the sox pulled off the 3-game comeback by defeating the twinkies for the trifecta. i will be happy if they win any postseason game, but the AL central is garbage, and i'm a realist. tampa is a nice story, i hope the rays are in the world series.
